What we’re about

A food lover’s haven - that doesn’t cost the earth

What to expect

Food, wine and lots of love

The Longe family have farmed in Suffolk for generations, and our family motto is ‘Without food and wine, love grows cold’ which comes from a Roman phrase peopled with Roman gods and goddesses: ‘Without Ceres (crops) and Bacchus (wine!) Venus freezes’ so you could say our mission is to provide the food of love! We love the idea of these Gods working together to keep our tummies full, to fill our cups, warm our hearts and this inspires us to serve up the best produce from the Suffolk coast, and beyond.

There’s plenty happening on the farm each season. From our low impact herd of sheep, to beekeeping and agroforestry for soil improvement - there’s lots going on. You can explore the local landscape on our permissive path or play in the meadow (and summer maze) behind the shop. You can walk easily to and from Seckford Hall on aforementioned path and weave your way to Woodbridge. We’re passionate about ‘giving nature her head, so she can guide us as responsible producers who care for the the land. We are proud of our achievements in regenerating the land so far, and we’re working hard on regenerating habitats and restoring biodiversity so that nature can do what nature does best - look after us.

An eye on the future

We’ve got big plans to reduce the environmental impact of our shop cafe and the other businesses on site (A Passion for Seafood, EJ Arts and Richard Rush Antiques) by reducing our energy consumption, generating renewable electricity and being better than carbon neutral by 2025. We work with the local community and encourage schools to bring children to the farm so they can go home with muddy boots, dirt under their fingernails, a seed bomb or two, and a better feeling for where their food comes from.

Fantastic feasts

We believe that you’ve got to throw a better party than the other guys… who wants a party under supermarket strip lights?. Throughout the year we organise foodie treats and gatherings with delicious local food and drink (think monkfish curry, sourdough pizza, probiotic ice cream, Giffords Hall Fizz and English wines, Earl Soham Suffolk Brewery and wines curated by Will and Winestory). Our children are 7and 11, and our dogs are both ancient and modern, so all of our events are family friendly, dog friendly, good for you and good for the soul.

Our purpose

This is our once in a generation opportunity to change the way we eat, and we are making the choice to do something about it. So we’re creating a food lover’s haven. A place where good food doesn’t cost the earth. A place where people can enjoy each other’s company with great food in a landscape teeming with life. A place where local producers and suppliers serve up the best Suffolk has to offer.

Our promise

We’re committed to giving our wonderful customers the best customer service we can, listening to what you want, providing the goods you need, fighting to keep the prices right and have fun doing so. Our passionate and knowledgeable staff are always on hand if you want to know more about a product, or to get ideas for your kitchen. We’re always open to new ideas and adventures so let us know if you don’t see what you want.

We’re all in

So, we’re all in. Totally committed. Up to the hilt. Take your brave pills and no turning turn back. Why? Because we can do something here that actually matters. We’re fully committed to: - freshness, taste and quality; variety, traceability and affordability - giving the spotlight to local producers, reinvesting in the local and circular economy. We make every effort to ensure the food we sell is traceable, ethical and sustainable, and wherever possible local, organic, pesticide free and in minimal packaging. When that’s not possible, we offer the best of what’s grown elsewhere to the highest possible standards.

Our principles

We are guided by these principles.

Following nature’s way

Bringing people together

Championing local food

Supporting local community

Throwing a fantastic party

Well OK, there are other things that guide us too, like knowing where the corkscrew is in the dark, or how to make the perfect cup of tea for each other, or what to do when it comes to the last biscuit but this is what we are trying to do!

We can’t wait to show you around!
